Forest fire
Thanks to highly efficient firefighting and a vast forest road network, extensive forest fires are rare in Finland. Forest-fire risks are continuously monitored in Finland during the summer months, and regional forest-fire warnings are issued. The warnings are issued based on the moisture level of the top soil layer, precipitation, and air temperature. Climate change increases temperatures and causes the soil to dry, contributing to the ignition and spread of forest fires. Campfires must always be thoroughly extinguished, and open fires are prohibited during a forest-fire warning – even on maintained campfire sites.
