Finns generally favour well-managed and easily traversable forests that contain sturdy trees and have good visibility, but which also have sufficient undergrowth and greenery. Many Finns find that thinnings make the forest landscape more attractive. In contrast, dramatic landscape changes, such as regeneration fellings, are generally not favoured.
According to studies, international travellers value ordinary forestry areas regardless of their age, as long as there are enough trees in the forest. For them, the most important factors are beautiful scenery and the opportunity to move around in nature. In fact, forestry and tourism can take place in the same areas, as long as forest management takes the diverse use of forests into account.
