Pets in the forest

To safeguard the nesting of birds and other animals, it is mandatory to keep all dogs over five months old on a leash from the beginning of March to the 20th of August. Even outside this time period, you may only walk a dog on someone else’s land on a leash or in such a manner that you can put the dog immediately on a leash, unless you have permission from the landowner or the holder of the hunting rights. Be especially mindful of keeping your dog on leash in reindeer husbandry areas. Dogs may not be taken to regular ski trails or, for example, public beaches. Take care of your pet’s waste so that they do not bother others. All this also applies to dog sledding. Cats may only be allowed loose in the owner’s yard or garden.
