Fishing with a line and hook, along with ice fishing, is a freely available pastime for people of all ages. Other fishing is subject to a permit, i.e. you need permission from the holder of the fishing rights, usually in the form of a fishing permit subject to a charge. Those not fishing with a line and hook and aged 18–69 years must pay the state a tax-like fishing management fee that is used to maintain good fish populations by, for example, stocking. Fishing is also regulated by various fishing and close seasons aiming to safeguard fish breeding and sustainable fish stocks. Every fisher must be aware of the extent of their fishing rights and be able to prove this right to a fishing supervisor. Ask for more information from Pilke Info and other Metsähallitus offices!
